Toyota Auris Touring Sports

The new wagon version of the Auris looks great.
Since we get the Corolla instead of the Auris, this is another car we won't be getting in the US.

Toyota could really use a good looking modern car like this over here.

There is a Hybrid version, of course.
And a 2.0 Liter diesel as well.

2014 Honda Fit

I think the current model still looks very nice.
This one seems over complicated. Not a step forward at all.

This to me looks like a Chinese copy of the current car. Which seems a bad trend. The Chinese market being so big now, car companies are now designing cars mostly for China.

So many lines, vents etc... Wow....

2014 Mazda3 videos

Just a few short promos. None of them very realistic.
But so far this is the best we can get seeing the all new 3 in motion.

Sad pic of the day...

This is a publicity shot for the new Citroen Grand C4 Picasso.

I love these giant glass roofs. This is the good part.
The sad part is to see these 2 people in what looks like magnificent surroundings. A gorgeous forest etc... And they choose to isolate themselves and watch a stupid movie.

This defeats the purpose of the large side windows and giant glass roof.
The saddest part is the fact that it is advertised. Shown to us as how to enjoy this car...

More on the Honda Crider

Just found out is it actually based on the Fit, not the Civic. Which would explain why it will be cheaper than the Civic.
Even though it is a bit longer than the Civic, it has a shorter wheelbase.
Which explains such graceful proportions (!)

The bad news is, we are getting a Fit sedan next year. So this, or something really close, could actually end up in the US...

Ugliest sedan in the world: a new contender has emerged...

It is the all new Honda Crider.
This China only model is based on the Civic. And it is actually a bit cheaper than the Civic over there. Go figure...

The great news is, this will not be sold outside of China.

Toyota NS4 Concept Video

For some reason, Toyota is showing the car and this new video at the Buenos Aires auto show this month.
We have already seen the NS4 concept last year. At the time people thought it was a preview of the 2015 Prius.

Since they are showing it again, maybe it is...

Next Renault Espace?

If this illustration is close to the real thing, it would mean a radical change for Renault's popular minivan.

Since 1984, the Espace has been synonymous with minivan in Europe. I guess the market is changing and "regular" minivans aren't as popular as they were. So a switch to a more SUV like shape would makes sense.
They even have a platform ready. The one already used for the Nissan Pathfinder/Infiniti JX.

This is the current, 4th generation Espace. Which came out in 2003.

You know they're doing a lot of thinking when a car isn't redesigned for 10 years....
That usually means drop it, or do something completely different.

2014 Citroen Grand C4 Picasso

A longer, roomier and more conservative version of the compact C4 Picasso minivan we saw just a few weeks ago.
Still much more modern looking than almost anything we are getting over here in that segment.
Minivans from Honda and Toyota are far from even looking modern.

There might be hope for the next Chrysler Town and Country (no more Dodge version). Wich could use a dose of Italian influence in its design...

2014 Mazda3 interior

Just another pic with the black/tan combo. Which, as usual, looks great.

On this picture, the interior looks pretty amazing for the class. It does have an upscale German look to it.
Nicely done.

2014 Mazda3

Another really nice looking Mazda3.
Not the most original, since it looks like a smaller hatchback version of the Mazda6 sedan design.
Same thing inside, where it doesn't seem as original as the current interior. Things are pretty straight in there now.
At least it shows a nice and big GPS screen, unlike the tiny cheap looking one used in the 6 and CX5.

No words on US engines yet, but I expect the same choices as the CX5.
2.0 Liter with 155 or 2.5 liter with 184hp. That would make sense...

More pictures and US specs coming really soon.

2014 Infiniti Q50 Pricing

Seem pretty well priced against the competition.
Again a good deal compared to the new Lexus IS, which starts at just $1000 under the new Infiniti. But comes with a smaller 2.5 Liter engine with just 204HP! And that's without even mentioning how horrific the new IS looks...
Even though the most popular model will probably be the $39 500 Premium.
It still compares well to the competition.

Looks like a hit for Infiniti.

2014/15 BMW 2 series

The new 2 series will replace the current 1 series coupe .
Based on the redesigned 1 series hatchback that came out in Europe last year.
Unlike the current coupe, the new 2 will not have the same front end as the hatchback.
But will share its interior.

As usual, we will be getting this version, and not the hatch. A convertible will follow soon after.

2014 VW Golf Variant/Jetta Sportwagen

Nothing we haven't seen before. But VW has released a couple of new pix of the new Golf VII based wagon.

Sold in Europe as a wagon version of the new Golf, it should arrive here next year as the Jetta Wagon.

Let's hope VW doesn't find a way to fit the cheapo looking US Jetta interior into this all new Wagon.
The new Golf interior is again, much better than what we are getting here in the Jetta....

Or by the time this comes out in the US, VW will fit the Euro Golf interior in all the US Jettas?

New Volvo???

Here are some pix taken from an official Volvo Video describing their new Autonomous Driving technology.
Instead of a known design, they choose to illustrate this new technology with a car that we've never seen before.
Yet it still has the obvious Volvo grille.
Looks like it would be a BMX X6 competitor. Or is it the next XC90?

What do you think?

Here is the whole video. Quite amazing technology, really.

And more views of the mysterious Volvo model....

2014 Honda Accord Hybrid

This is the regular Hybrid version of the current Accord. Not the horrific looking Plug-in version.
So, thankfully, it looks more like the regular models.

No price has been announced yet, but it will be cheaper than the $40 500 Plug-in model.
Although, at least in japan, it is priced about $6000 more than the Camry Hybrid (Go figure...)

The new Hybrid System is more similar to the one Toyota has been using for years. And it allows the car to run on electric power only for a while. Unlike previous Hybrids from Honda.

Mileage is expected to be 49City/45HWY.

WasabiCars – Car Spotting in Japan

If you are reading this, then you are interested in cars in one way or another.  The same goes for the man Daniel O’Grady, the Australian living in Japan.  Daniel always had an interest in classic cars when he lived in Australia, but after he moved to Japan, his love for cars translated into classic Japanese cars.  This led to his YouTube Channel: WasabiCars.

Daniel explains the name and goal of WasabiCars perfectly on his WasabiCars website: “WasabiCars is all about car-spotting, and these are the cars I spot.  It's Wa (å’Œ - Japan) often sprinkled with sabi (錆 - rust), and of course they're cars!”

While we all love seeing the classics restored, Daniel has a special place in his heart for those left to rot; the ones that have not been moved in years; the ones that are a pile of rust; the ones that have stories to tell, but will never have anyone to tell them to.  However, he does more often than not upload videos of resorted cars at car shows.

To date, Daniel has over 1,200,000 views on his 379 videos.  He only joined YouTube in February of 2012!  There is more to Daniel then just uploading videos; Daniel O’Grady is all about fan interaction.  He knows that he would not be where he is today without his fans.  He is constantly responding to comments on YouTube, FaceBook, and Twitter, and he even makes shout-out videos thanking his biggest fans.  Sometimes he will get away from the cars, and just talk to the camera about life (even though that usually has to do with cars as well).

One of his most popular videos is actually of an American car graveyardlocated in Japan.  It features a Z28 Camaro, some Mustangs, a Corvette, and more.  To this day it remains his most popular video with over 320,000 views to date!

I personally love his videos, and his style.  There are so many review videos and what not on the web.  Daniel’s videos and short, entertaining, funny, and just a pleasure to watch.  Most of his videos around, or under two minutes.  One of the best things is the narration.  Daniel is not an expert.  He learns as he goes, and teaches his findings to his viewers.  THAT is what I can appreciate.

If you are looking to learn a bit about the classic cars found in Japan (Japanese, British, American, and more), then you need to check out WasabiCars!

2014 Mazda3

Caught in Russia, with no camouflage on at all.
And it does look really good. Actually close to the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
Which shouldn't be a problem in the US since the Italian model isn't sold here.

It should be a big hit for Mazda here and overseas.

Worst driving ever.

Russia has to be one of the worst place in the world for drivers.

This compilation is so amazing on so many levels. Some of these accidents look like computer special effects from big Hollywood movies.
But they are not. Just cheap dash cams and Russian drivers....

Something you don't see every day...

Even in Europe, where this picture was taken.
A Cabriolet version of the legendary Citroen DS.

They made very few of these over the years, and this particular one looked in perfect condition.

2014 Fiat 500L Living

This has to be the stupidest name for a car I've seen in a while. "Living". Like in "Living room"?

We are just getting the 500L over here, and Europe is soon getting a longer 7 seat version of that car.
The "living".

So as of now, this is the largest car sold under the name 500. It is about 8 inches longer than the regular 500L.

Thankfully, the only engine offered in the US version of the 500L is the 1.4 Liter Turbo with 160HP.
But in Europe, where the "Living" will stay, they offer a 95HP version of the 1.4 Liter as a base engine.
Just imagine how fun that is to drive around with 7 people on board....

2014/15 Smart ForFour ?

The next 4 door version of the Smart will share its platform with the next Renault Clio.
And this is what the car is supposed to look like.

Not the 1st attempt to a larger Smart model, since they already had a four door model produced from 2004 to 2006. Although, like the sporty coupe they had at the time, it was never sold in the US.
This is the 1st ForFour. It was based on the Mitsubishi Colt platform.
The next one, above, seems really close in design. So close that I wonder if it is real.

Why would they copy the 1st model so much since it was a flop?

Foreign cars in their foreign lands...

I was lucky to spend a few days in Europe recently, and noticed a few cars.

The Golf Cabrio seems to be the most popular Convertible I saw over there. Much more so than the Beetle, or any other convertible for that matter. And it is pretty new.
I must say, it looks really good in person.

This one I expected to be popular. The tiny VW Up!. 4 and 2 door models are very common over there. Not as small as I though, but the interior is really basic.

The cute Audi A1 is also easy to find. Still looking really good after a few years on the road.

I didn't take this picture, obviously, but the small Daihatsu Terios was the car I saw the most during my few days in Greece. A friend of mine also owned one so I got to ride in it.
The small 1.5 Liter engine seemed to struggle at freeway speed. But it was pretty roomy considering the small size. And actually fine for an inexpensive SUV. (Starting at around 18 000 Euros over there)
Looking pretty good too.

2014/15 VW Canyon?

According to some rumors, VW is getting an all new small SUV ready. Something that would slot right under the Tiguan (Itself being redesigned soon)
But still larger than the Up! based tiny Taigun.
While the Taigun might be too small for the US, the Canyon could very well make it over here.

It would be based on the next generation Polo. And would start at under $20 000.

Mercedes SL wagon

Not really. But yes...
Coachbuilder Studio Torino is putting a CLS Shooting Brake type rear end to the SL convertible.

I guess there might be enough people in the world willing to pay the extra money for that...

2014 Citroen Grand Picasso

Funny how people in Europe keep seeing new Citroens around. Before they come out, with no camouflage.
This is the long version of the all new C4 Picasso that just came out.

Is Dodge dying?

-
The future doesn't look too bright for Dodge.

There has been no words about new models.

-The Avenger is going away next year. There is a replacement for its Chrysler 200 cousin, but nothing so far for Dodge.
-Chrysler/Fiat has already announced there will be only one version of their next Minivan. Which will almost certainly go to Chrysler.
-It has already lost all its truck line to the new Ram Truck brand.
-The new Viper is sold under the new SRT brand, it's not a Dodge anymore.
-Yes, there is a new redesigned Challenger coming soon. But it will probably also be sold under the SRT brand, as a Barracuda.

Put all these news together and you have no future for the Dodge brand.
I think Fiat made the decision years ago. They're just not ready to announce it yet.

How about other colors on the new 4 Series?

Sure... Looking a bit better now.
But it still, amazingly boring with almost no personality at all.

Amazing how the Audi A5, which is already pretty conservative, looks so much more modern than this.
And the A5 came out in 2007!
