Toyota Recall 550,000 Cars Premium - Toyota Motor said Wednesday, will attract about 550,000 units globally, includingLexus models, because of potential damage (defects) on the crankshaft pulleywhich can cause noise and make steering more difficult.
A Toyota spokesman told AFP that the company has recorded 79 complaints about the damage all over the world, but the company said it received reports of accidentsor injuries associated with such damage.
Withdrawal includes about 447,000 units in North America and 38,000 units in Japan, said a spokesman.
Toyota said the recall was due to the possibility that the ring (ring) out of the crankshaft pulley (cam shaft) can be parallel to the damper, causing noise or lightfrom the electrical system warning light.
If this condition is not corrected, the belt for the power steering pump is likely to beseparate from the pulley and indicator states there is an abnormality to motoristsdriving modes.
The models affected include Alphard, Avalon, Camry, Highlander and Siennaincluding Lexus, model ES300, ES330, RX300, RX330 and RX400h, the spokesman said.
Previously lauded for its safety standards, Toyota became mired in a crisis when itattracted nearly nine million vehicles between late 2009 and February 2010because of defective brakes and accelerator, pushing it to expand its globalwithdrawal policy.
In 2008, Toyota put an end to the 77-year rule of General Motors as the world'slargest automaker, but since then the Japanese giant to face the impact ofeconomic crisis, the withdrawal, the strong yen and the impact on the production ofnatural disasters in Japan and Thailand.
